If there’s a keyboardist better qualified to extrapolate on the legacy of Joe Zawinul, they must inhabit another dimension. Scott Kinsey’s 2019 album We Speak Luniwaz proved this point, but it also showed the synthesist and bandleader coming into his own -- even when speaking through the Zawinul canon. Recorded live at Jazz Dock, Prague in 2023, Kinsey brandishes a monster band featuring alto saxophonist Patrick Bartley Jr, electric bassist Hadrien Feraud and mega-drummer Gergo Borlai. The Zawinul material is a part of each musician's DNA, but they also have an unparalleled ability to take it into their own zone.
