Spitting Ibex with the wonderful Tanja Peinsipp was supposed to present their latest recording that evening, but unfortunately this is not possible due to health reasons. All the best... At short notice, the band “Bakkers Trakkers” with the charismatic Silvia Heufler will be stepping in, a band that has a lot to do with P&B. You may know band leader Tom Bakker as the evening shift at the entrance, keyboardist Matthias Nowak worked in the P&B office for a while, and singer Silvia Heufler also works as a waitress at our bar. Welcome to the club! CH
We are Bakkers Trakkers, a young funk fusion project that originated in Vienna in the summer of 2025. The initiative came from me, Tom Bakker: out of a simple desire to make music, I brought together friends and colleagues from the Porgy & Bess scene to play together. Without any grand plan or goals—just for the love of making music.
What began as a casual basement jam session quickly developed into an organically grown ensemble. We had fun, it felt right, and soon the first gig came out of an unexpected corner. Since then, we have been playing regularly at a wide variety of venues. People danced, stopped, listened – and step by step, a jam project became a band on the rise.
Our repertoire has largely been developed through playing and jamming together. Simple, catchy motifs meet a lot of improvisation, feeling, and joy of playing. It's less about constructed complexity and more about immediate expression, a well-placed “silly note,” and the courage to push musical boundaries. Perhaps it is precisely this mixture, perhaps our stage presence – but certainly the joy of playing together that has already enchanted several stages.
Our motto is simple: we do our thing. It is, and it will be, whatever it wants to be. For us, the band is a space to live life to the fullest, to enjoy ourselves, and to share music. Three singles are planned for the spring. We deliberately leave our genre open—we leave that up to the audience. Our musical journey has only just begun, and we are excited to see where it will take us.
