The András Dés Quartet brings together four influential musicians from the Vienna jazz scene: András Dés (percussion, composition), Philipp Nykrin (piano), Martin Eberle (trumpet), and Kenji Herbert (guitar). The band combines contemporary jazz with improvisation, melodic clarity, and rhythmic depth.
At the heart of the band is András Dés' compositional approach: the pieces are created with the individual strengths and timbres of the musicians in mind. Instead of classical solo parts, the compositions work with open structures that leave room for spontaneous, playful interplay. For Dés, jazz is democracy in action—a collaborative process based on trust, listening, and the courage to play.
This artistic self-image already shaped the highly acclaimed album Unimportant Things (BMC Records, 2024), which received outstanding reviews internationally. In March 2026, the quartet's new album Decisions We Make will be released on BMC Records: a 49-minute, uncut musical arc in which composed music and open musical spaces combine to create a lively, risk-taking performance."
