As the daughter of the powerful-voiced jazz diva Dee Dee Bridgewater and theater, film, and television director Gilbert Moses, who died in 1995, China Moses grew up in an inspiring artistic environment. The exceptionally talented singer released her first single, “Time,” in 1996 at the age of just 16. The video clip was directed by none other than Jean-Baptiste Mondino, who has also shot music videos for Madonna, David Bowie, Sting, Björk, Neneh Cherry, and Les Rita Mitsouko. The successful single was followed by three solo albums: “China” (1997), “On Tourne En Rond” (2000), and “Good Lovin'” (2004). With these albums, China established herself in the booming French rhythm and blues scene. She also made guest appearances on albums by French hip-hop greats such as Fabe, DJ Cam, Nèg'Marrons, and Diam's, worked with DJ Mehdi, Karriem Riggins, Guru, Meshell Ndegeocello, Jalane, Anthony Marshall, and Sinclair, but also worked as a presenter on MTV and dubbed the voice of Princess Tiana in the French version of the Disney film “The Princess and the Frog.” (Press release)
After various appearances at P&B, including with her mother, in a duo with Raphaël Lemonnier, alongside Pee Wee Ellis, and during lockdown in a trio, the diva now graces us with her fantastic quintet. Welcome back! CH
