Max Plattner & tiny ploy 'expansion through reduction'
Andi Tausch: guitar
tba: piano, synthesizer
Max Plattner: drums, compositions
Max Plattner is one of those musicians who see the desire for change not as a risk, but as a driving force. With the trio formation now being presented for the first time—guitar, piano/synths, and drums—he is leading his band Ploy into a compact yet more open soundscape. The downsizing is not a retreat, but a precise uncovering: structures become more permeable, transitions more unpredictable, and the material of the existing program takes on new contours.
Ploy has been described in the press as “cross-genre – a mixture of jazz, electronica, hip-hop, and new music,” and their debut album of the same name has been praised as “a truly exciting taste of his own vision of modern jazz.” It is precisely this complexity that takes on a new tension in the trio: with fewer instruments, there is more space – and the ensemble uses this space to precisely model, stretch, and reconstruct musical spaces.
For the audience, this evening is not simply a reduced version of the previous project, but a deliberately newly constructed musical architecture – edgier, more agile, more willing to take risks. Ploy in the trio is a laboratory with open doors: focused, uncompromising, and full of unexpected possibilities.
