Since their founding in 2017, the seven-piece band E C H O BOOMER has consistently played with the expectations of their audience. Their music moves fluidly between chamber-like intimacy and electronic experimentation, always walking the fine line of
categorization – deliberately ambiguous, yet always purposeful. Following their win of the 2024 Austrian Jazz Prize in the category Best Album, the ensemble now presents their third release, The Shape Of Things That Never Came (TSOTTC). This new album continues the path they have carved out, while refining the group’s sonic language with a multitude of new nuances. The compositions by bassist and bandleader Beate Wiesinger increasingly serve as open frameworks, allowing the distinct musical voices of this “ensemble of soloists” to fully emerge. Rooted in the long tradition of jazz, E C H O BOOMER articulate a highly individual and unmistakable approach to music. Drawing from a wide range of stylistic sources – from pop and noise to contemporary classical music – they craft a sound that defies conventions while remaining emotionally resonant. TSOTTC thrives in the tension between structure and spontaneity, between expectation and disruption. The music winds its way through conventions and traditions, borrowing freely – sometimes from everywhere, sometimes from nowhere – yet always following its own inner logic, shaped through collective processes of rehearsal, exploration, and creative risk.
