An Afro-American woman playing the harp in a jazz context - it's clear that one immediately thinks of Alice Coltrane, who played a beguilingly beautiful, spiritual jazz in the 70s. Brandee Younger's music is also inspired by the classic soul jazz of the time, but with its influences from R'n'B, hip hop and funk, it is also fully in the here and now.

Born in Hempstead, New York in 1982, Brandee Younger has already worked with jazz musicians such as Ravi Coltrane and Makaya McCraven and hip-hop artists such as Common and Drake. She is bringing her trio with bassist Rashaan Carter and drummer Allan Mednard to the Elbphilharmonie to present her latest album "Brand New Life". The harpist has dedicated herself to the work of Dorothy Ashby, who became known as a pioneer of jazz harp between hard bop and cool jazz in the 1960s with albums such as "Afro-Harping". Brandee Younger's music is not only characterized by virtuoso technique and a crystal-clear sound, but above all by a shimmering, enraptured elegance. (Press release)
