In 1923, Kurt Schwitters began writing his sound poem “Die Ursonate”: a classic of the Dada movement, through which artists based in Zurich satirically challenged conventional art forms and gave political protest a new voice. As a global manifesto of pushing boundaries into uncharted artistic territory, “Die Ursonate” is more relevant than ever and will now be performed in a musical arrangement by Anke Lucks, featuring the Potsa Lotsa Wind Quintet and reciter Thomas Krüger. Krüger had already recited the “Ursonate” in Leipzig in 1986, before becoming a founding member of the Social Democratic Party in the GDR and, in 1991, Senator for Youth and Family Affairs in Berlin. Since July 2000, in addition to holding various honorary positions, he has served as president of the Federal Agency for Civic Education and remains a gifted Dadaist who, with Potsa Lotsa and the “Ursonate,” has performed at venues including Berlin’s Maxim Gorki Theater and the Elbphilharmonie.
