Ibou Ba, born in Dakar, Senegal, in 1974 into a family of musicians, grew up with traditional Senegalese music and learned to play the drums (djembe, sabar) at the age of 10, perfecting his skills over the years at Daradji Percussion, the classical school of drumming. At the age of 15, he was accepted into the ensemble “Ambassadeur de la Culture au Sénégal.” This engagement sealed his artistic career as a percussionist. He subsequently performed with the “Ballet Afrique Noir,” the “Ballet Daradji Dakar,” Ouza Diallo, and other musicians and ensembles. Ibou Ba has been living and working in Austria and Senegal since 2010. In Austria, he has performed as part of “Impulstanz” and in dance courses with the “Ballet Tilibo,” with Ismail Ivo and Germaine Acogny, as well as with a number of renowned musicians who have engaged him on numerous occasions for their concerts in Austria.
Mamadou Diabate brings the sun of West Africa to the stage! As colorful as the atmosphere in a market square somewhere in West Africa, the music of Mamadou and Percussion Mania features virtuoso balafon music, supported by powerful African rhythms and enhanced by African vocals. Above all, the spectacular “balafon duel” between the two brothers
Mamadou and Yacouba leaves no one sitting still!
The master of the balafon, Mamadou Diabate, lives and works in Vienna. He composes, sings, and plays the balafon as well as various percussion instruments. His concert tours have taken him to many countries and renowned festivals. After 12 CDs and countless concerts, he has long been an indispensable part of the “world music” scene.
