The pianist and composer Hans Koller (born in 1970 in Landshut; has lived in London since 1991) has created a substantial body of work comprising over 70 original compositions, which have been recorded on sixteen critically acclaimed albums. His works have been performed, interpreted, and/or documented in collaboration with many of the leading figures in contemporary jazz, such as Bill Frisell and Steve Swallow; with pioneers of the early avant-garde, such as Steve Lacy, Alexander von Schlippenbach, and Evan Parker; and with genre-defining, groundbreaking composers and improvisers such as Bob Brookmeyer, Mike Gibbs, and Kenny Wheeler. (Pressetext)
Hans Koller performed on our stage several times; he gave his last concert in 2003. Until 2009, the Austrian jazz award named after him was also presented at the P&B. As you might guess, this is an artist with the same name who is neither related to nor acquainted with his famous namesake. I heard Piano-Koller perform with his band at the Inntöne Festival in Diersbach, and I highly recommend you don’t miss it. A real discovery! CH
