Chango Spasiuk
The Argentinian maestro Chango Spasiuk, the international figure of Chamamé, enriches his journey with a new project that will thrill stages around the world. With the repertoire "Taco y suela: tradición", which he performs as a trio, he revives the energies of his homeland while continuing his work of transmission. Chango Spasiuk refers to the founding fathers of a musical style that is much more than just a musical genre: a living and mixed culture, linked to nature and imbued with spirituality. This approach, which forges a link between a rich past and a promising future, is exemplified by his new collaboration with the young accordionist Enzo Demartini. The two virtuosos complement each other between diatonicism and chromaticism, while his long-time partner Marcos Villalba shines on the drums.

Chango Spasiuk has molten gold in his fingers, and this gold flows singing through the bellows of his accordion. The term for such a stunningly beautiful record has yet to be coined. LES INROCKUPTIBLES

He is one of the great accordionists on the planet and accepts with a half-smile to be described as the Coltrane of his instrument.THE WORLD

He has brought the sad sweetness of chamamé to Paris. LE MONDE

Spasiuk has revitalised the music's barn-dance traditions to create something thrillingly modern and cosmopolitan. In such hands, the charm of chamamé is irresistible.THE TIMES

A messianic-looking figure with long airs, beard and twinkling eyes, he paused between each song as if meditating, before launching into his next impassioned instrumental THE GUARDIAN

I can think of few better ways to spend an hour than with this, one of the best albums of the year.BBC

Far from sounding rustic or rural, this acoustic, mostly instrumental work boasts a sophisticated sound that infuses earthy traditions with jazz influences and classical touches. LOS ANGELES TIMES

In his compositions and arrangements, melodies are magnified and illuminated by shifting instrumental combinations to reconfigure each phrase. THE NEW YORK TIMES

Tajy is a Guaraní word for the lapacho tree. For the Guarani (indigenous people of the region between Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil), the blossoming of the "Tajy" signifies the awakening of a new time and a new space, a time of renewal, of "new beginnings". Inspired by this belief, the musicians of the ensemble decided to adopt the name "Tajy" to speak about themselves: a trio of academic musicians and popular experience that moves between roots and innovation, always celebrating the landscape and culture of its region. In the sound world of Chamamé, Tajy has its own identity. María Belén on violin, Alejandro on accordion and José Víctor on guitar present a repertoire full of energy, earth and deep emotion, with the trio's characteristic sound sensitivity and beautiful work on the musical arrangements. Federico Mayuli's double bass as guest musician combines the special musical frequency and dynamics with the dance, which is a traditional and essential expression of the communities on the Argentine coast. In addition to their own compositions, which are the trio's trademark, on this album they play versions of works by icons of the genre such as Tránsito Cocomarola, Pedro Montenegro, Roque Librado Gonzalez, Ernesto Montiel, Tarragó Ros and Salvador Sena. Their versions combine with the essence of Chamamé: music, prayer and dance. (Press release)
