Sababu Festival 2026 – In der Strengen Kammer

The Sababu Festival is organized by the Music Bridge association (Mamadou Diabate and Bernhard Schneider) in cooperation with Porgy & Bess.

Ethnic and world music are among the aspects of immigration and “foreignness” that are predominantly perceived as positive. And music is certainly an element of our lives that connects us on many levels.

There are many outstanding professional musicians among Viennese people with so-called migration backgrounds. However, they are not very visible in public and are severely underrepresented, which means that their art remains hidden from a wider audience and they themselves are unable to showcase their talents or even make a living from them. Nevertheless, these artists significantly enliven a scene that is characterized by diversity and mutual respect, among other things. Ensembles are grouped together in their subcultural niches, consisting, for example, of Africans, South Americans, and Austrians, and in such constellations they create very specific, contemporary music that reflects the cultural diversity of their creators. This scene thus represents a model for fruitful, intercultural, and integrative coexistence between indigenous and migrant population groups.

The Sababu Festival was successfully staged for the first time in April 2024 at Porgy & Bess. The second edition will take place from April 9 to 11, 2027, once again at Austria's No. 1 jazz club, Porgy & Bess, Riemergasse 11, 1010 Vienna.
