In a multi-part event series at my favorite music club, Porgy & Bess in Vienna, we’ll gather with an illustrious group of human, scientific, and creative luminaries to uncover what defines a person in their entirety—and how their sometimes untapped abilities and partly undiscovered potential transform them into the marvel that they are. Through decades of working with jam bands such as Pink Inc., Café Drechsler, Raab, Steger & Deutsch, Franz Hautzinger’s Regenbogenorchester—in collaboration with the Camerata Salzburg and Christian Muthspiel, or in a trio with Peter and Kenji Herbert, Where melodies, rhythms, structures, breathtaking conclusions, and incredible surprises arise spontaneously, I came into direct contact with some of these abilities. That is why one part of our joint matinee is dedicated to a freely improvising ensemble, and the other part to a philosophical discussion on the topic of “humanity.”
