21:00 Voces Spontane & the Vienna Chamber Choir dir. Johannes Prinz

Voces Spontane, the improvisational limb of the vocal ensemble VOCES, WIEN has been working for two years in this configuration on a wide range of improvisational forms, under the direction of ensemble leader, Sibyl Urbancic. An important aspect of their work is spontaneous reaction to situations, ambience and their audience.

The repertory of the Wiener Kammerchor (Vienna Chamber Choir), established in 1947, draws on the classical choir literature from the Renaissance to the Modern but also widens to include encounters with experimental music, performance elements and pop, which makes the choir into an interesting sound fabricator for the jazz club. Here they will present "Polemische Arie & Kinderreime" (Polémical Arias and Children's Rhymes) a piece by and with Otto M. Zykan, the former Enfant Terrible of the Viennese concert scene. In 1965, Zykan established the "Salon Concert" series together with colleagues Kurt Schwertsik and Heinz Karl Gruber in Vienna's Konzerthaus; in 1968, he formed the ensemble "MOB art & tone ART." As pianist, he attracted attention by performing Schoenberg's entireGesamtwerk für Klavier from memory during the Vienna Festival, to name just one example. In the mid-70s, he created a national scandal with his film "Staatsoperette," an exposé on the political history of the First Republic. "Polemische Arie & Kinderreime" may not be scandal provoking but (hopefully) will be "sound provoking" enough to suit any respectable jazz audience. CH
