21:00 Randy Weston Solo (USA)
Randy Weston's father had a club somewhere in Brooklyn which served as hotbed for the hipsters in revolt
of the sprouting '40s bebop scene. Monk, Gillespie, Parker and Roach, who dined there occasionally,
can be credited for sparking Weston's early interest in music during the period following his return from
military service. More than any of the others, Weston later chose to emphasize the African roots of jazz
and his "Little Niles" and "Hi Fly" went on to become standards in the jazz repertory. Of particular note is
his co-work with arranger Melba Liston which scored with such big band productions as "Tanjah" and
"African Cookbook." We're pleased to welcome another Piano Great. Jazz history viewed first hand! CH
