21:00 Special Reserve feat. Ursula Slawicek's Jazz Seduction

Due to the perpetual shortage of female jazz vocalists, you'll often find records by "defunct" singers who have little or nothing to do with jazz within private jazz collections that are otherwise assembled with good taste. At the same time, we seem to withhold Hosannas from the most exemplary singers whereas we'd tend to heap them on even the most modest of instrumentalists, Francis Davis remarked ("In the Moment: Jazz der 80er Jahre"). Judging from experience, my humble opinion is that there are many talented and fascinating woman jazz singers around. So where does this "perpetual shortage" myth come from?

Ella Fitzgerald hit the nail right on the head when attempting to explain why the wonderful singer Carmen McRae had to wait so long to receive acclaim. The world of show biz or jazz biz is a madhouse, she reasoned, whereas if you only look at talent, a thousand beautiful things would come your way.

Porgy and Bess is one such show biz madhouse but increasingly it is also becoming a hothouse in which diverse jazz forms can madly grow and blossom. If you only consider the talent, this evening will bring a thousand beautiful things your way: Ursula S. is a wonderful example of the local jazz singer flora and the fine instrumentalists who accompany her also merit a genuine Hosanna.
