France apparently provides fertile ground for unusual guitarists and Paris-based Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le certainly counts among these. Along with Akchoté, Le embodies the type of musician who cannot be classified stylistically and who appears to have virtually unlimited access to (nearly) all categories of music. His palette includes rock, funk and jazz and runs through various tones of ethnic music (among other things, he is currently working on a project in which jazz will be blended with the musical traditions of his Vietnamese homeland). For this P&B début, Nguyen Le will team up with bassist Dieter Ilg and drummer Danny Gottlieb, who recently left indelible tracks at Porgy through his work with the Gil Evans Orchestra. CH
