The Building

In 1911 the older building was replaced by a five story bldg. called "Vesquehof” (V.-court), owned by August Fondi On October 12, 1918 it was bought by Wilhelm and Hedwig Mahler; from April 7, 1938 on Hedwig Mahler was the sole owner. Through a writ by the "Gestapo” (secret state police) section Prague of May 13, 1942 the bui- lding belonged from now on to the "Grossdeutsches Reich”/”Third Reich” (financial section). Josef Mahler was the owner from January 20, 1949 on and sold it to Josef Markus on March 1, 1954.

The house, which hosts "Porgy & Bess” today was "arisiert”, just like the neighboring bldg. (The neighbor’s house No.10 – new construction in 1910 – was acquired by Simon and Betty Kohn in 1917. During 1935 Betty Kohn became the only owner;
bought by Rochus and Luise Fässl on Sept. 7,1939, it returned into Betty Kohn’s ownership on Sept. 16, 1947 through the restitution commission).
